Proffil

Ymunodd Dr Cheryl Ellis â Phrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd yn llawn amser yn 2008 fel darlithydd mewn Astudiaethau Addysg ac Anghenion Addysgol Arbennig. Canolbwyntiodd ei thesis PhD, a gwblhawyd ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd, ar faterion cynhwysiant a chynyddu mynediad i'r cwricwlwm i ddisgyblion sydd â Saesneg fel iaith ychwanegol. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys datblygu adnoddau cyfrifiadurol mewn ystod o ieithoedd cartref. Mae ymchwil bellach yn cael ei wneud yn y maes hwn ar hyn o bryd.

Wedi gweithio fel athrawes ysgol gynradd yn y gorffennol, mae Cheryl wedi profi 'realiti ymarferol' bywyd ystafell ddosbarth. Yn ogystal, mae wedi ennill statws 'athro arbenigol' ar gyfer dyslecsia ac mae'n parhau i weithio gyda phlant ar sail un i un i ddatblygu eu sgiliau llythrennedd. Mae materion yn ymwneud â 'dyslecsia', gan gynnwys effeithiau gwahaniaethau dysgu penodol ar ddisgyblion mwy galluog/dawnus a disgyblion sydd â Saesneg fel iaith ychwanegol, o ddiddordeb ymchwil arbennig.

Mae Cheryl yn arweinydd Ysgol Goedwig Lefel 3 hyfforddedig ac mae'n gweithio fel rhan o dîm yr Ysgol Goedwig i ddarparu hyfforddiant i ymarferwyr a myfyrwyr. Mae tîm yr Ysgol Goedwig hefyd yn gweithio'n agos gydag ysgolion i ddarparu cyfleoedd i ddisgyblion o bob oed brofi Ysgol Goedwig yn ardal y coetir ar gampws Cyncoed.

Cheryl yw Pennaeth Adran y Dyniaethau ac mae'n gweithio'n agos gyda'r holl staff i sicrhau bod yr adran yn cael ei rhedeg yn llyfn. Agwedd bwysig o'r rôl hon yw treulio amser yn gwrando ar farn myfyrwyr fel y gellir gwneud datblygiadau ar gyfer y profiad gorau posibl i fyfyrwyr.
