Ymunodd Nick â Phrifysgol Fetropolitan Caerdydd ym mis Ebrill 2009 o'r Ysgol Cynllunio a Daearyddiaeth, Prifysgol Caerdydd. Mae ei brif ddiddordebau ymchwil ym meysydd economeg rhanbarthol, busnesau bach ac entrepreneuriaeth, rhwydweithiau, strategaeth busnes, arloesedd a chreadigrwydd. Yn benodol, mae ganddo ddiddordeb yn y ffordd y mae cwmnïau yn defnyddio rhwydweithiau i gaffael gwybodaeth ac arloesi, a'r ffactorau sy'n dylanwadu ar y dewis o leoliad gan unigolion creadigol. Mae'n Gymrawd o'r Academi Addysg Uwch ac mae'n un sydd ag ymlyniad â'r Martin Prosperity Institute, Ysgol Reoli Rotman, Prifysgol Toronto.

Yn 2013 cyd-olygodd Nick rifyn arbennig o Regional Studies gyda Dr Roberta Comunian (Coleg y Brenin Llundain) a Dr Caroline Chapain (Prifysgol Birmingham) ar 'Creative Regions: Diverging Dynamics for Creative Individuals and Industries between Local Policies and Global Discourses'. Gyda'r un cydweithwyr bu Nick hefyd yn olygydd gwadd ar gyfer rhifyn arbennig o'r City, Culture and Society ar 'Creative industries & creative policies: a European perspective?, 5(2) (Mehefin 2014). 

Mae Nick yn ddiweddar wedi cyd-olygu rhifyn arbennig o'r European Planning Studies (cyfrol 19 rhif 11) ar 'Companies, cultures, and the region: interactions and outcomes' (Tachwedd 2011). 

Roedd yn gyd-olygydd gwadd (2010) ar rifyn arbennig o'r Creative Industries Journal 3(1/2) 'Location, location, location: exploring the complex relationship between creative industries and place'.

Ymchwil

Mae prosiectau ymchwil mawr wedi canolbwyntio ar ffynonellau gwybodaeth rhyngwladol busnesau bach a chanolig, datganoli anghymesur yn y DU a dylunio a chyflwyno polisïau datblygu economaidd yn y DU, a'r ymchwiliad meintiol ac ansoddol trwyadl Ewropeaidd cyntaf i'r 'dosbarth creadigol'. Mae gwaith diweddar hefyd wedi archwilio'r cydadwaith rhwng diwylliant a brandio rhanbarthol. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n cymryd rhan mewn prosiect ymchwil gyda chydweithwyr ym Met Caerdydd yn edrych ar arloesedd, creadigrwydd a defnydd o fannau 'cydweithio'.

Mae Nick wedi bod yn rhan o'r gwaith o awduro mwy na 100 o erthyglau cyfnodolion, papurau cynadleddau a phapurau gwaith, adroddiadau ymgynghoriaeth ymchwil, ac mae wedi golygu llyfrau a phenodau. Mae ei ymchwil wedi denu cefnogaeth gan ystod eang o sefydliadau yn y DU megis y Cyngor Ymchwil Economaidd a Chymdeithasol (ESRC), y Gymdeithas Astudiaethau Rhanbarthol, Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, CCAUC, Cyngor Caerdydd, Ffederasiwn Busnesau Bach, Gweithrediaeth yr Alban a NESTA .
