Ymunodd Alec ag Ysgol Gwyddorau Chwaraeon ac Iechyd Met Caerdydd yn 2023, ar ôl cwblhau ei PhD mewn Astudiaethau Cinesioleg – Diwylliant Corfforol a Chwaraeon yn 2022 o Brifysgol Texas yn Austin (UDA). Cyn ymuno â Met Caerdydd, bu Alec yn gweithio fel cyfadran atodol yn yr adran Rheoli Chwaraeon ym Mhrifysgol St John Fisher (Rochester, NY, UDA). Mae addysgu Alec yn canolbwyntio ar ddulliau ymchwil, dylunio ac ymarfer yn ogystal â'r dyniaethau yn y diwydiant chwaraeon (hanes, cymdeithaseg a llywodraethu). Ar flaen yr ymchwil, mae ei feysydd o ddiddordeb yn cynnwys chwaraeon, hunaniaeth a mynediad trwy hanes, cymdeithaseg, astudiaethau trefol, y cyfryngau a chysylltiadau rhyngwladol.​

Ar wahân i'r byd academaidd mae Alec yn mwynhau cymysgedd o draddodiadau chwaraeon Americanaidd ac Ewropeaidd. Mae ganddo angerdd am rwyfo ac mae wedi treulio'r ugain mlynedd diwethaf fel cystadleuydd a hyfforddwr ar draws yr Unol Daleithiau ac mae'n bwriadu parhau i wneud hynny yng Nghymru.


Ymchwil / Cyhoeddiadau

Mae diddordebau ymchwil Alec yn cael eu llywio gan gefndir dyniaethau rhyngddisgyblaethol, sy'n canolbwyntio ar hanes. Mae'n cymhwyso dulliau hanesyddol i ystod o bryderon chwaraeon penodol megis hunaniaeth ddiwylliannol, mynediad a chydnabod, seilwaith ffisegol, a rôl crefydd. Crynhoir y prosiectau presennol o dan y pedair thema isod:

Hunaniaeth Ddiwylliannol – Mae gwaith yn y maes hwn yn cynnwys creu fframwaith i ddeall sut mae poblogaethau ymylol – yn enwedig grwpiau mewnfudwyr a phobl is-wladwriaeth – yn cynnal ac yn haeru dynodwyr diwylliannol trwy chwaraeon a hamdden.

Mynediad a Chydnabyddiaeth – Mae ymchwil yn y maes hwn yn canolbwyntio ar gynseiliau hanesyddol a realiti geowleidyddoll sy'n wynebu cydnabyddiaeth ryngwladol o ffederasiynau chwaraeon byd-eang a chyrff llywodraethu gwledydd nas cydnabyddir yn rhyngwladol.

Seilwaith Ffisegol – Mae ymchwil yn archwilio cyfethol adeiladau dinesig a gofodau ar gyfer chwaraeon trefol, hamdden a hamdden. Mae'r gwaith hwn yn canolbwyntio ar ddull microhanesyddol sy'n tynnu sylw at gysylltiadau rhwng bywiogrwydd deinamig datblygiad trefol a symudiadau athletau cyfoes.

Rôl Crefydd – Mae'r maes ymchwil hwn yn edrych ar yr effaith a gafodd yr Eglwys Gatholig ar ddatblygiad chwaraeon ieuenctid a hamdden o ganol y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg i ganol yr ugeinfed ganrif. Yn benodol, mae'r gwaith hwn yn ceisio ehangu'r naratif hanes chwaraeon sefydledig o amlygrwydd yr YMCA Protestannaidd.

Mae Alec wedi bod yn rhan o’r byd rhwyfo ers 2003, pan ddechreuodd fel coxswain. Rhwng 2008 a 2012 mynychodd Alec nifer o wersylloedd datblygu rhanbarthol a hyfforddwyd gyda rhaglenni perfformiad uchel yn Philadelphia. Yn 2010 dechreuodd hyfforddi ac ers hynny mae wedi goruchwylio rhaglenni iau, colegol, ac uwch berfformiad uchel ar draws yr Unol Daleithiau, gyda nifer o'i athletwyr yn cynrychioli'r wlad mewn cystadlaethau rhanbarthol a rhyngwladol. Yn 2016 enillodd Alec ei ardystiad USRowing Lefel II.​
