Mae John yn ddarlithydd ac ymchwilydd ym maes Ffisioleg Ymarfer Corff a Chryfder a Chyflyru, ac yn Gyfarwyddwr y Rhaglen BSc Gwyddorau Chwaraeon ac Ymarfer Corff. Cyn ymuno ym mis Tachwedd 2021, bu John yn gweithio fel darlithydd ym Mhrifysgol Caer (2013 i 2017) ac yn Uwch Ddarlithydd a Rheolwr Rhaglenni ym Mhrifysgol Hartpury (2017 i 2021). Mae ganddo radd ddosbarth 1st (Anrh) BSc mewn Gwyddor Chwaraeon ac Ymarfer Corff (lle mae’n dod yn Valedictorian; 2013) a PhD mewn Ffisioleg Ymarfer Corff a Chryfder a Chyflyru (2018) o Brifysgol Caer. Yn 2017 daeth John yn Gymrawd yr Academi Addysg Uwch, gan ennill Tystysgrif Ôl-radd mewn Addysgu a Dysgu mewn Addysg Uwch yn y broses.

Mae ymchwil John yn canolbwyntio ar dri phrif faes, 1) blinder a ysgogir gan ymarfer corff, difrod i’r cyhyrau ac adferiad, 2) hyfforddiant ar sail cyflymder, a 3) cryfder a diagnosteg pŵer. Mae ganddo dros 30 o gyhoeddiadau a adolygir gan gymheiriaid yn y meysydd hyn, 15 achos cynhadledd, 5 ohonynt yn cael eu gwahodd, cwblhau doethuriaeth a 2 fyfyriwr PhD presennol. Mae hefyd wedi goruchwylio llu o fyfyrwyr traethawd hir MSc a BSc yn llwyddiannus.

Ar wahân i’w brofiad darlithio ac ymchwil mae gan John rôl gref mewn ymdrechion gwrth-wahaniaethol yn y byd academaidd, chwaraeon ac ymarfer corff. Mae wedi rhoi llu o sgyrsiau gwrth-wahaniaethol i Brifysgolion a sefydliadau, a chreu mentrau gwahanol amrywiol i wella tegwch yn y byd academaidd, chwaraeon ac ymarfer corff. Mae’n aelod o Dîm Gweithredu Strategol Athena Swan yr Ysgol, a phwyllgor Ecwiti, Amrywiaeth a Chynhwysiant Cymdeithas Gwyddorau Chwaraeon ac Ymarfer Corff Prydain.


Ymchwil, Diddordebau a Chyhoeddiadau

Mae ymchwil John yn ymchwilio i ganlyniadau acíwt ymarfer corff (e.e. blinder, niwed i’r cyhyrau ac adferiad), yn enwedig ymarfer corff sy’n seiliedig ar ymwrthedd. Er mwyn cyflawni hyn, mae wedi ceisio pennu dilysrwydd a dibynadwyedd sawl dyfais a ddefnyddir i fonitro ymarfer corff a phenderfynu ar newidiadau mewn metrigau cryfder a phŵer. Yna gellir defnyddio’r dyfeisiau hyn i fesur blinder, niwed i’r cyhyrau a’r cwrs amser i adfer mewn amrywiaeth o boblogaethau (e.e. athletwr hŷn a benywaidd).
