Mae Jon yn athro mewn Gwyddoniaeth Gymhwysol Ymarfer Paediatreg, sy'n cydnabod ei ymchwil helaeth gyda phoblogaethau ieuenctid. Mae ei ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar ddatblygiad corfforol ieuenctid ar draws persbectifau perfformio, anafiadau ac iechyd, yn aml gyda ffocws ar rôl cryfder a chyflyru i hyrwyddo datblygiad athletaidd. Mae ymchwil Jon wedi bod yn ddylanwadol wrth lywio academyddion ac ymarferwyr ar ffactorau sy'n gysylltiedig â datblygu ffitrwydd corfforol mewn ieuenctid. Cefnogir ymchwil Jon gan rwydwaith o fyfyrwyr ymchwil ac mae wedi'i adeiladu ar gydweithrediadau â sefydliadau chwaraeon proffesiynol a gwyddonwyr ymarfer corff pediatreg yn y DU a thramor. Ar hyn o bryd mae Jon hefyd yn athro atodol yn Sefydliad Ymchwil Perfformiad Chwaraeon Seland Newydd (SPRINZ).

Ymchwil, Diddordebau a Chyhoeddiadau

Cyd-sefydlais y Ganolfan Datblygiad Corfforol Ieuenctid ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd ac mae fy niddordebau ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar themâu cydgysylltiedig perfformio, risg anafiadau ac iechyd a llesiant athletwyr ifanc. Cefnogwyd yr ymchwil hon gan rwydweithiau ymchwil cydweithredol cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol a phartneriaid allanol allweddol gan gynnwys ysgolion, clybiau, cymdeithasau proffesiynol a chyrff llywodraethu cenedlaethol. Mae hyn wedi cynnwys ymchwil a gefnogwyd gan arian o'r Fenter Sgiliau Economi Gwybodaeth, FIFA, UEFA a Chwaraeon Cymru. Nod fy ymchwil yw cael effaith gadarnhaol ar ymarfer ac rwyf wedi trosi fy ymchwil i lywio addysg hyfforddwyr ar gyfer sefydliadau gan gynnwys UKCoaching ac Athletau Cymru. Rwyf hefyd wedi cyfrannu at ddatganiadau sefyllfa rhyngwladol ar hyfforddiant gwrthiant a datblygiad athletaidd hirdymor plant a'r glasoed. Yn fwyaf diweddar, fe wnes i gyd-awduro llyfr testun Coleg Meddygaeth Chwaraeon America, "Essentials of Youth Fitness".
