Bywgraffiad 

Mae Steve yn ddylunydd cynnyrch gyda 23 mlynedd o brofiad proffesiynol mewn diwydiant a'r byd academaidd. Mae wedi cynllunio neu reoli cynnyrch oddeutu 50 o gynhyrchion i'w marchnata ac wedi cyhoeddi tua 70 o allbynnau a adolygwyd gan gymheiriaid. Ar hyn o bryd mae'n cyd-ysgrifennu llyfr gyda Yr Athro Alan Dix o Brifysgol Birmingham i'w gyhoeddi yn 2017 gan Wasg Prifysgol Rhydychen o'r enw Touch IT. Daeth y llyfr allan o'r prosiect DEPtH:Dylunio ar gyfer Corfforol, cydweithrediad a ariannwyd gan gyngor ymchwil gyda Phrifysgol Caerhirfryn.  Mae Steve yn Gymrawd Academi Addysg Uwch ac yn aelod o Gymdeithas Ymchwil Dylunio.

Mae Steve yn arwain  grŵp Met Caerdydd (UCD-R), y mae ei wreiddiau yn Rhaglen CSAD ar gyfer Ymchwil Prototeip Rhyngweithiol Uwch (PAIPR). Sefydlwyd PAIPR gan Steve a Gareth Loudon yn 2001 i ymchwilio i ddulliau o ddylunio a datblygu cynhyrchion corfforedig cyfrifiadurol megis ffonau symudol a dyfeisiadau meddygol yn gyflym. Yn y cyfamser, bu’r Ganolfan Genedlaethol Ymchwil Dylunio a Datblygu Cynnyrch (PDR), sydd hefyd ym Met Caerdydd, yn archwilio gweithrediad effeithiol prosesau DDG mewn arfer masnachol. 


Er bod dyfeisiau sydd wedi'u hymgorffori mewn cyfrifiaduron yn parhau i fod o ddiddordeb mawr, mae gan UCD-R fuddiannau pellach sy'n gysylltiedig â phwysigrwydd y prototeip fel ffocws y gellir defnyddio dulliau ymchwil ethnograffig mewn praxis dylunio, er enghraifft yn y broses datblygu dyluniad ar gyfer aelodau prosthetig.  Mae'r grŵp yn rhoi pwyslais mawr ar yr elfen gymhwysol, ac yn gweithio ar ddatblygu offer a phroses UCD. Maent wedi gweithio'n agos gyda chwmnïau sglodion glas (blue chip) fel Samsung a Kenwood, ac mae llawer o'r technegau a ddatblygwyd trwy ymchwil y grŵp yn cael eu defnyddio'n uniongyrchol mewn prosiectau dylunio masnachol trwy gynnig UCD masnachol PDR. 

Current research

Mae Steve yn ymchwilydd cymhwysol. Yn ogystal ag arwain yr UCD-R (gweler uchod), mae'n gweithio'n agos gyda  Prof. Judith Hallo Ysgol Feddygol Prifysgol Caerdydd a  Dr. Clara Watkins o ar ddatblygu cynnyrch meddygol sy’n arbed bywyd ar gost isel. Mae Steve yn sylfaenydd a  Chadeirydd Gweithredol Sefydliad Ymchwil mewn Celf a Dylunio Wales Institute of Research in Art & Design (WIRAD). Dros y blynyddoedd mae ei ddiddordebau ymchwil wedi datblygu i fod yn amrywiol, gan ei arwain i oruchwylio PhD mewn meysydd mor amrywiol ag offer ail-ffurfweddu, Thermograffeg, Dylunio, Gweledigaeth Profiadol a Serameg. Mae ei ddiddordebau craidd yn ymwneud â dylunio sy'n canolbwyntio ar bobl, dylunio cynnyrch sy'n hanfodol i fywyd, elfen gorfforol, creu prototeipiau cyflym o gynhyrchion sydd wedi'u hymgorffori mewn cyfrifiaduron a dylunio rhyngweithio. Thema gyffredin ynddynt i gyd yw'r awydd i osod pobl wrth galon ymchwil sydd â'r nod o greu effaith 'byd go iawn'.
