Mae Chris yn Uwch ddarlithydd mewn Ffisioleg Ymarfer Corff yn yr Ysgol Chwaraeon a Gwyddorau Iechyd a ymunodd â Phrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd yn 2014. Treuliodd 6-mlynedd ym Mhrifysgol John Moores Lerpwl lle cwblhaodd ei radd israddedig a PhD o dan y teitl "Vascular and Metabolic Adaptations to Exercise in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease". Yn 2012, symudodd Chris i Awstralia ar gyfer cymrodoriaeth ymchwil Ôl-ddoethurol ym Mhrifysgol Gorllewin Awstralia, lle'r oedd yn defnyddio technegau arloesol i ymchwilio i addasiadau fasgwlaidd acíwt a chronig i wneud ymarfer corff.  Fel rhan o'i rôl ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd, mae Chris yn parhau i ddefnyddio'r technegau hyn i wneud gwaith ymchwil newydd ac i ddarparu maes llafur gwyddoniaeth ymarfer corff sy'n arwain ymchwil.

Mae agenda ymchwil fyd-eang Chris yn canolbwyntio ar sut y gall ymarfer corff rheolaidd a gweithgarwch corfforol atal a thrin clefydau cardiofasgwlaidd a metabolaidd yn effeithiol drwy gydol oes yr unigolyn.  Mae ganddo arbenigedd technegol mewn nifer o dechnegau ffisiolegol arloesol, y mae'n eu defnyddio i asesu swyddogaeth gardiofasgwlaidd mewn poblogaeth bediatrig, athletwyr elît, heneiddio a'r boblogaeth glinigol risg uchel. Mae'r technegau hyn yn cynnwys asesiad anfewnwthiol o swyddogaeth a strwythur fasgwlaidd trwy uwchsain cydraniad uchel, mynegeion o lif gwaed barlys trwy draws-creuanol Doppler, Mesur y swyddogaeth endothelaidd microlong gan ddefnyddio microdialysis mewngroenol a mynegrifau o swyddogaeth faratgyrch sympathetig fasgwlaidd drwy microniwrograffi. Mae Chris yn goruchwylio tîm o ymgeiswyr PhD sy'n archwilio agweddau amrywiol ar ei raglen ymchwil ac mae wedi derbyn dros £2 filiwn o gyllid cystadleuol i gefnogi ei ymchwil, yn fwyaf nodedig o'r Sefydliad Cenedlaethol er Ymchwil Iechyd, Iechyd a Gofal Cymru a Sefydliad Waterloo. Mae Chris hefyd yn Ddirprwy Arweinydd y grŵp ymchwil ffisioleg cardiofasgwlaidd, yn ogystal ag yn aelod o'r Pwyllgor Rheoli ymchwil gweithgaredd & Lles (CAWR) a Phwyllgor Moeseg yr Ysgol Chwaraeon a Gwyddorau Iechyd. Ar ben hynny, ef yw Cyfarwyddwr Raglen gradd BSc Cyd-anrhydedd Gwyddor Chwaraein ac Ymarfer a'r cydlynydd Traethawd Hir Ffisioleg.

Ymchwil / Cyhoeddiadau

Mae Ymchwil Chris yn canolbwyntio ar effeithiau cronig ac aciwt ymarfer corff ar yr ymylon a'r parlys fasgwlaidd ym mhob rhan o'r oes. Mae'n defnyddio technegau uwchsain blaengar i ymchwilio i effaith therapiwtig hyfforddiant ymarfer corff ac ymyriadau eraill megis therapi gwres, trochi dŵr, achosion o isgemia rhag blaen a deunyddiau fferyllol newydd er mwyn lleihau'r risg o glefyd cardiofasgwlaidd mewn poblogaethau sy'n agored i niwed. Ar hyn o bryd, mae ymchwil Chris yn rhoi sylw i bedwar maes allweddol:
