Bywgraffiad

Addysgwyd yr Athro Kavanagh yn Ysgol Ramadeg-Dechnegol Abersychan ac astudiodd hanes ac yna astudiaethau amgueddfa ym Mhrifysgol Caerlŷr. Mae ganddi DPhil ac MPhil. Yn guradur cymwys a phrofiadol, roedd hi'n rhan o'r Adran Astudiaethau Amgueddfa fyd-enwog ym Mhrifysgol Caerlŷr rhwng 1980 a 1999. Gadawodd i sefydlu Ysgol y Graddedigion ym Mhrifysgol Bath Spa.

Rhwng 2000 a 2004 roedd hi'n Ddeon y Cyfryngau a Diwylliant yng Ngholeg Celf Falmouth. Yna cymerodd yr Athro Kavanagh flwyddyn allan oherwydd iechyd ei thad yn methu, ac yn ystod yr amser hwnnw bu’n dysgu astudiaethau amgueddfa ar sail ffracsiynol yn Ysgol Gelf Winchester a chadeiriodd eu Pwyllgor Ymchwil. Daeth yn bennaeth Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Caerdydd ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd (UWIC) ym mis Hydref 2005 a gwnaed hi'n Ddeon ym mis Awst 2006. Ymddeolodd yr Athro Kavanagh o'r Brifysgol ym mis Hydref 2015.

Mae hi wedi bod yn gynghorydd i'r Amgueddfa Rheilffordd Genedlaethol, Efrog, Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru a'r Swyddfa Archwilio Genedlaethol. Mae hi'n awdur tri llyfr, gan gynnwys Dream Spaces (2000) ac mae wedi golygu saith llyfr arall.

Yn 2014, penodwyd yr Athro Kavanagh gan Gynulliad Cymru i'r Panel Arbenigol a gynullwyd i adolygu Amgueddfeydd Llywodraeth Leol yng Nghymru.  Cyhoeddwyd adroddiad y Panel gan y Cynulliad ym mis Medi 2015.

Mae hi'n parhau i gynghori cyrff celfyddydau ac amgueddfeydd ac mae'n ymwneud â nifer o fentrau hyfforddi a datblygu.

Ymchwil gyfredol

Enw ei phrosiect diweddaraf, a ariannwyd gan yr Academi Brydeinig, oedd Anawsterau Deunyddiol: Objects and Narratives that Disturb and Affect. Mae ganddi ddiddordeb ym mhwysigrwydd y synhwyrau wrth wneud ystyr, yn enwedig lle mae nam ar y cof neu'n destun eithafion profiad.

Ar hyn o bryd mae'r Athro Kavanagh yn datblygu cyhoeddiad ar weithio gyda gwrthrychau a gofod mewn amgylcheddau addysgol a therapiwtig.
