Ymunodd SMMahdi Alavi â Met Caerdydd ym mis Chwefror 2021. Derbyniodd y graddau BASc a MASc mewn Peirianneg Drydanol o   Brifysgol Technoleg K.N. Toosi, a'r radd PhD o Brifysgol Limerick.

Roedd yn Athro Cynorthwyol ym Mhrifysgol Shahid Beheshti yn Tehran, Iran. Mae ganddo brofiad o weithio fel darlithiwr ac ymchwilydd ymweliadol mewn grwpiau amlddisgyblaethol ac amrywiol yn ysgolion peirianneg a meddygol gorau'r byd fel Ysgol Feddygaeth Prifysgol Duke, Ysgol Beirianneg Prifysgol Rhydychen, a Chyfadran Meddygaeth Prifysgol British Columbia.

Mae'n astudio ac yn datblygu theori rheolaeth ar gyfer cymwysiadau sy'n dod i'r amlwg mewn systemau ynni a biofeddygol.
