Diane is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Events. She teaches on both the undergraduate and postgraduate tourism courses as well as supervising a number of PhD students within the department.

Diane is also an active member of the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research  (WCTR) and was part of both the 2008 and 2014 Research Excellence Framework in which the WCTR was found to be undertaking research of world leading 4* quality.


Dr Diane Sedgley is a committed advocate of transformative, equitable and ethical research and she has a strong publication catalogue on the meaning and significance of tourism in the lives of marginalised and under-empowered groups. She has published on tourism and leisure in later life, tourism, poverty and lone parenting, tourism and disability, female migrant workers, and gay and lesbian tourism in leading journals, including: the Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Leisure Studies and the World Leisure Journal. She has worked on a range of projects with third sector partners including Cerebra, the Alzheimer's Society, the Royal National Institute of Blind People, and the National Benevolent Fund for the Aged and a number of education establishments. Diane has also been involved in public sector funded research projects on developing a sense of place and the development of food tourism in tourist destinations. Diane reviews for several leading journals and sits on a number of CSM committees.
