South East Asia Scholarship Award

Cardiff Met is delighted to offer a number of 50% tuition fee scholarships for South East Asian students studying any taught undergraduate or postgraduate programme in September 2019.

Scholarship Eligible Nationalities: Applicants must be a national of (or permanently domiciled in) any South East Asian Country (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia) and have not previously studied in the UK within the last year.

Please note that this is a highly competitive scholarship that will be awarded to the highest scoring applicants that meets and exceeds the scholarship criteria as set out in the terms and conditions.



What does the scholarship include?

50% tuition fee reduction, valued between £6000 (undergraduate) and £6750 (postgraduate), for the first year of study only.

How do I know if I am eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Applications must be received before 12:00 UK time on the 13th July 2019. Applications submitted after this time will not be considered for the scholarship.
  • Applicants must already hold a conditional or unconditional offer from Cardiff Metropolitan University for a full-time taught undergraduate or postgraduate program commencing in September 2019.
  • Applicants must meet the undergraduate or postgraduate English language requirements of IELTS or UKVI equivalent.
  • Applications must be a national of (or permanently domiciled in) any South East Asian Country (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar and Indonesia) and have not previously studied in the UK since September 2018.
  • Applicants must be willing to engage in occasional Cardiff Metropolitan University International marketing activities during their year of study (September 2019 – September 2020).

To apply for the scholarship, students must complete the online Scholarship Application Form.

How will scholarship applications be assessed?

Upon close of the scholarship deadline (12:00 UK time, 13th July 2019), each application will be assessed carefully through a 2 phase process:

Phase 1: Applications will be shortlisted by point system based on the strength of their academic achievements and the quality of answers provided in the scholarship application form.

Phase 2: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a short interview and assessed by point system based on their interview performance. The two highest point scorers will be awarded the scholarship.

 

When will I be notified if my application has been successful?

The scholarship application deadline is 13th July 2019. Applications will then be shortlisted and successful candidates will be invited to interview between 19th – 22nd July.

The successful applicant will be notified on 23th July 2019 and will have until the 25th July 2019 to comply with all scholarship conditions and pay AFP. Failure to accept offer and pay AFP by this date will result in the scholarship being offered to the candidate with the second highest score (and so forth). The scholarship winner will be officially announced on 26th July.

Unsuccessful scholarship applicants will be notified of the outcome and may be offered a partial scholarship of 10% - 25% based on the quality of their application.

 

Scholarship Timeline

13th July 2019 (12:00 UK time) - Cardiff Met SEA 50% Scholarship awards close for applications

15-17th July 2019 – Scholarship applications assessed and shortlisted

17th July 2019 - Shortlisted candidates informed and invited to interview

19th – 22nd July 2019 (09.00 – 17.00 UK time) – Shortlisted candidates’ interview period.

PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted candidates must ensure their availability to interview, without exception, during this interview period. Each interview will last 20-30mins and can be conducted over Skype/ LINE/ Facetime or in perso.

23rd July 2019 – Scholarship winners notified

25th July 2019 – Deadline for scholarship winners to accept offer and pay AFP

PLEASE NOTE: Failure to accept offer and pay AFP by this date will result in the scholarship being offered to the candidate with the second highest score (and so forth).

 26th July 2019 - Unsuccessful candidates informed of outcome. Scholarship winners officially announced

Terms and Conditions

1.0 For the purposes of this scholarship, the following definitions shall apply:

1.1 Definition of ‘South East Asian Student’: A fee paying national of (or permanently domiciled in) any South East Asian Country (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar and Indonesia) and have not previously studied in the UK within the last year

2.0 General Terms and Conditions

2.1 The Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee scholarship will take the form of a tuition fee reduction upon enrolment. No cash alternative is available.

2.2 Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship is non-transferable and is not valid in conjunction with other scholarships, sponsorships and bursaries.

2.3 The Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship will only be applied during the first year of enrolment; the scholarship will not be applied to any subsequent years of study.

2.4 Cardiff Metropolitan University reserves the right to amend or withdraw the Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship at any point and without notice.

2.5 Students who are sponsored by an organisation such as an external funding body, Government, or employer are not eligible to receive a Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship.

2.6 Students receiving any form of tuition fee discount are not eligible to receive a Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship.

2.7 All Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship decisions made by the Cardiff Metropolitan University are final.

2.8 Only offer holders of Cardiff Met undergraduate and postgraduate programmes commencing in September 2019 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. ‘Undergraduate programmes’ include the Cardiff Met Undergraduate Foundation programmes (year 0) but exclude Cardiff Met’s International Foundation programme.

2.9 Shortlisted candidates must ensure their availability to interview, without exception, during the interview period (19th – 22nd July 2019, 09.00 – 17.00 UK time). Failure to interview will mean the candidate will no longer be considered for the scholarship.

2.10 Scholarship winners will be notified on the 23th July 2019. In order to accept the scholarship, winners are required to meet all additional scholarship conditions detailed in the notification email and pay AFP by 25th July 2019. Failure to comply will result in the University withdrawing the scholarship offer and consequently offering the scholarship to the next best candidate (and so forth).

3.0 Awarding of Scholarships

3.1 Cardiff Metropolitan University 50% fee Scholarship for South East Asian students will be awarded to the student who meets / exceeds the scholarship criteria listed below.

  • Applicants must be willing to engage in occasional Cardiff Metropolitan University International marketing activities during their year of study (September 2019 – September 2020).

*Please note: Priority will be given to those applicants who have already met the terms of their Cardiff Met study offer by the scholarship closing date.

3.2 Applications for Cardiff Metropolitan University’s 50% Scholarship for South East Asian Students must be received by 12:00 (UK time) on the 13th July 2019

3.3 Selection: Applicants will be scored on the strength of their academic achievements, the quality of the answers provided in the scholarship application form and their interview performance.

3.4 Cardiff Metropolitan University endeavour to notify all applicants of a scholarship decision via email by 26th July 2019. Applicants will have no right to appeal and the University’s decision is final.

3.5 The successful scholarship applicant must choose to accept or decline the scholarship award and pay AFP by the 25th July 2019. Failure to comply will result in the University withdrawing the scholarship offer and consequently offering the scholarship to the next best candidate (and so forth).

3.6 Rejection of the scholarship, or failure to comply with 3.5 above, by the successful applicant will result in the scholarship being offered to the next highest point scorer (and so forth).
